I’ve been wanting to learn how to play the drums for awhile now and have been keeping a mental list of all my favorite “drum focused/oriented” songs and definitely The Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray” is one of the list toppers. I woke up quite early this morning and put “Sister Ray” on while still in bed and it just got me going for the rest of the day. There’s just something uplifting about Lou Reed’s voice. I could never imagine slamming on the drums for 17 minutes straight!!! Maureen Tucker is an absolute GOD for doing that! His arms are not that huge either, I’m amazed they didn’t fall off or something. And do I have to mention John Cale on the organ. He does an excellent job. Who knew you could jam out on an organ? LOL Overall, this song is amazing even for it being 17 minutes long. It’s so fun to listen to that it doesn’t even seem that long. Some people have said this song has heavy Jim Morrison/The Doors influence because of the organ but I definitely disagree. The Velvet Underground are an entity in their own. Any opinions??
Have You Heard?
May 12th, 2010
admin Have you heard of the band Paper Tongues yet? Their new hit “Ride to California” is so catchy it stays stuck in my head hours after I hear it. They’re a fairly new band formed in 2007 in Charlotte, North Carolina and then moved to California in hopes of getting a record deal. This is where the inspiration for their hit song came from. It peaked at number 22 on Billboard Chart of Alternative Songs. The lead singer Aswan North has impeccable vocals and their particular take on mixing hip-hop and rock & roll is quite refreshing. If you haven’t heard it yet, here it is for your viewing pleasure!
Vancouver’s Hot Hot Heat Releasing Their 4th Album
April 15th, 2010
admin Dangerbird Records (a California based label) had signed the band Hot Hot Heat’s fourth studio LP album “Future Breeds” to be released on June 8, 2010. This album was said to be recorded when the band built a private studio in Vancouver since splitting with their previous label, Sire Records. Dangerbird Records only received a finished product and had no part in the making of the new album named “Future Breeds”. Steve Bays had his mind set on settling with a label that already like the album and that is exactly how Dangerbird Records received it. Hot Hot Heat is already an established band here in the USA and might do much better off with this record company rather than Sire Records. Sire is popularly known to be a label that aides British bands in breaking through to the American listeners. Hot Hot Heat is already liked here, we just need more albums!!! I can’t wait!

“Black Balloon” by The Goo Goo Dolls, one of my boyfriend’s favorites ![]()
Baby’s black balloon makes her fly
I almost fell into that hole in your life
And you’re not thinking about tomorrow
‘Cause you were the same as me
But on your knees
A thousand other boys could never reach you
How could I have been the one
I saw the world spin beneath you
And scatter like ice from the spoon
That was your womb
Comin’ down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone’s prayer
You know the lies they always told you
And the love you never knew
What’s the things they never showed you
That swallowed the light from the sun
Inside your room
Comin’ down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
Or are you someone’s prayer
And there’s no time left for losin’
When you stand they fall
Comin’ down the world turned over
And angels fall without you there
And I go on as you get colder
All because I’m
Comin’ down the years turn over
And angels fall without you there
And I’ll go and lead you home and
All because I’m
All because I’m
And I’ll become
What you became to me

Alkaline Trio- “This Addiction”

Paolo Nutini- “Live From New Orleans”
I absolutely LOVE Paolo Nutini and have a feeling his live album will be just as great as his previous two “These Streets” and “Sunny Side Up”. He just has a magnificent voice and style about him, so hopefully it won’t disappoint!

Here(In Your Arms) by Hellogoodbye is an upbeat love song that started the digital voice era of our time. It was one of my favorites in college. My best friend and I would literally BLARE it driving down the street! It’s just so happy!!
I like,
Where we are,
When we drive,
In your car.
I like,
Where we are,
Here.
Cause our lips,
Can touch.
And our cheeks,
Can brush.
Our lips can touch,
Here.
Where you are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, “Hello,
I’ve missed you quite terribly.”
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there’s no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.
I like,
Where you sleep,
When you sleep,
Next to me.
I like,
Where you sleep,
Here.
Our lips,
Can touch.
And our cheeks,
Can brush.
Cause our lips can touch,
Here.
Where you are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, “Hello,
I’ve missed you quite terribly.”
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there’s no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.
Our lips can touch.
Our lips can touch,
Here.
You are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, “Hello,
I’ve missed you quite terribly.”
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now there’s no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your…
You are the one, the one,
That lies close to me.
Whispers, “Hello,
I’ve missed you quite, miss you quite…”
I fell in love, in love,
With you suddenly.
Now theres no place else,
I could be, but,
Here in your arms.
Here in your arms.
Oh, here in your… arms.

This song was released here in the U.S. on this date (February 21) in the year 1966 and was featured on their album “Rubber Soul”. The Beatles are by far one of my favorite bands and this was one of the first songs John Lennon wrote that featured his personal lyrics, rather than superficial one’s about love.
He’s a real nowhere man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Doesn’t have a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man please listen,
You don’t know what you’re missing,
Nowhere Man,the world is at your command!
He’s as blind as he can be,
Just sees what he wants to see,
Nowhere Man can you see me at all?
Nowhere Man, don’t worry,
Take your time, don’t hurry,
Leave it all till somebody else
lends you a hand!
Doesn’t have a point of view,
Knows not where he’s going to,
Isn’t he a bit like you and me?
Nowhere Man please listen,
you don’t know what you’re missing
Nowhere Man, the world is at your command!
He’s a real Nowhere Man,
Sitting in his Nowhere Land,
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody.
Making all his nowhere plans
for nobody!

“Easy Skankin” by Bob Marley is a relaxing, easy going song that’s perfect for this Saturday. And if you are 420 friendly this song should definitely bring a smile to your face! =D
Easy skanking (skankin’ it easy);
Easy skanking (skankin’ it slow);
Easy skanking (skankin’ it easy);
Easy skanking (skankin’ it slow).
Excuse me while I light my spliff; (spliff)
Good God, I gotta take a lift: (lift)
From reality I just can’t drift; (drift)
That’s why I am staying with this riff. (riff)
Take it easy (easy skankin’);
Lord, I take it easy! (easy skankin’);
Take it easy (easy skankin’);
Got to take it easy (easy skankin’).
See: we’re takin’ it easy (ooh-wah-da da-da)
We taking it slow, (ooh-wah-da da-da)
Takin’ it easy (easy);
Got to take it slow (slow-slow)
So take it easy (easy skankin’ – da-da-da-da-da-da)
Wo-oh, take it easy (easy skankin’)
Take it easy (easy skankin’ – da-da-da-da-da-da)
Take it easy. (easy skankin’)
Excuse me while I light my spliff; (spliff)
Oh, God, I gotta take a lift: (lift)
From reality I just can’t drift; (drift)
That’s why I am staying with this riff. (riff)
Take it easy (takin’ it easy);
Got to take it easy (takin’ it slow);
Take it easy (takin’ it easy);
Skanky, take it easy (takin’ it slow).
Tell you what:
herb for my wine; (ooh-wa-da-da-da)
Honey for my strong drink; (ooh-wa-da-da-da)
Herb for my wine; (ooh-wa-da-da-da)
Honey for my strong drink.
I shake it easy (takin’ it easy);
Skanky, take it easy (skankin’ it slow);
Take it (takin’ it easy) easy;
Take it (skankin’ it slow) easy;
Take it easy (takin’ it easy);
Oh-oh-ooh! (skankin’ it slow);
Little bit easier (takin’ it easy);
Skanky, take it easy (skankin’ it slow).
Take it easy! Take it easy! Take it easy!
