Super Bowl XLV- Little Wayne Needs to Shut His Mouth

I am a HUGE Steelers fan and really enjoyed Wiz Khalifa’s fall 2010 hit “Black and Yellow” and especially when the lyrics were changed to support the Steelers. As soon as everyone around the country found out that the Steelers were going to yet another Super Bowl, his song became the unofficial anthem fans all over who would wave their black and yellow “terrible towels” to it. THEN, Lil’ Wayne had to come out with his own hater version/parody of Wiz’s song titled “Green and Yellow” bashing the Steelers and glorifying the Packers. First of all, Wiz is FROM Pittsburgh and understandably wanted to show support for his hometown team. Lil’ Wayne is from New Orleans. Maybe he forgot that his hometown team went to the Super Bowl last year, not this year. In the song Wayne even claims to be a “cheesehead” when everyone knows he’s a dang Saints fan. Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” does not say one word about the Packers but Lil’ Wayne mentions the Steelers every other verse. How pathetic! Really, Lil’ Wayne? How about you SHUT UP! I sure am tired of him and his attitude. And people say Kanye’s bad…..

Snoop Dogg is AAAAmazing in this video though (Snoop has AAAAALWAYS been a Steelers fan! Representing :)

The Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray”

I’ve been wanting to learn how to play the drums for awhile now and have been keeping a mental list of all my favorite “drum focused/oriented” songs and definitely The Velvet Underground’s “Sister Ray” is one of the list toppers. I woke up quite early this morning and put “Sister Ray” on while still in bed and it just got me going for the rest of the day. There’s just something uplifting about Lou Reed’s voice. I could never imagine slamming on the drums for 17 minutes straight!!! Maureen Tucker is an absolute GOD for doing that! His arms are not that huge either, I’m amazed they didn’t fall off or something. And do I have to mention John Cale on the organ. He does an excellent job. Who knew you could jam out on an organ? LOL Overall, this song is amazing even for it being 17 minutes long. It’s so fun to listen to that it doesn’t even seem that long. Some people have said this song has heavy Jim Morrison/The Doors influence because of the organ but I definitely disagree. The Velvet Underground are an entity in their own. Any opinions??

Have You Heard?

Have you heard of the band Paper Tongues yet? Their new hit “Ride to California” is so catchy it stays stuck in my head hours after I hear it. They’re a fairly new band formed in 2007 in Charlotte, North Carolina and then moved to California in hopes of getting a record deal. This is where the inspiration for their hit song came from. It peaked at number 22 on Billboard Chart of Alternative Songs. The lead singer Aswan North has impeccable vocals and their particular take on mixing hip-hop and rock & roll is quite refreshing. If you haven’t heard it yet, here it is for your viewing pleasure!

Vancouver’s Hot Hot Heat Releasing Their 4th Album

Dangerbird Records (a California based label) had signed the band Hot Hot Heat’s fourth studio LP album “Future Breeds” to be released on June 8, 2010. This album was said to be recorded when the band built a private studio in Vancouver since splitting with their previous label, Sire Records. Dangerbird Records only received a finished product and had no part in the making of the new album named “Future Breeds”. Steve Bays had his mind set on settling with a label that already like the album and that is exactly how Dangerbird Records received it. Hot Hot Heat is already an established band here in the USA and might do much better off with this record company rather than Sire Records. Sire is popularly known to be a label that aides British bands in breaking through to the American listeners. Hot Hot Heat is already liked here, we just need more albums!!! I can’t wait!

Eric Clapton Limited Edition Fender MyTouch Phone

My brother recently bought me the new limited edition Fender MyTouch Google phone for my birthday. What a perfect gift for any music lover! It has 16 GIG of memory! No need for an iPod… just plug your matching “wood-grain” headphones in & listen away or into the car/sound system with an auxillary cable. I’ve already uploaded most of my music library, including whole ablums to my phone and still have 14 GIG free! OMG, I absolutely love that feature of the phone. The ability to customize your phone to exactly the way you want it is also a great component of the the Fender MyTouch. The easy drag and drop method to move widgets and apps is rather convenient. It is all touch screen with no physical keyboard. To access the keyboard you tap the screen where you need to write something. This feature does allow for more screen space to watch music and any type of videos, for example on the included youtube app. The charger (which also matches with the wood motif of the phone and headphones) is a USB cable, which can be plugged into your computer, that plugs into a wall charger. So, the charger is two chargers in one which is also really really convenient and keeps everything organized. The phone and all of it’s accessories are neatly packaged in a hard black zipper case (with matching silver Fender guitar pick emblem).

Today in Music History: The Platters & The Buckinghams Number One Songs

So today February 18th is a day in history to remember for 50’s & 60’s oldies or “doo-wop” music lovers. Both The Platters and the Buckinhams had legendary songs that reached #1 on the charts on February 18th and stayed there for a good amount time. The Platter’s “The Great Pretender” (1956) and The Buckingham’s “Kind of A Drag” (1967) reached number one on the charts on February 18th. These songs are two of my favorites and do a mighty fine job of capturing the innocence and sincerity of the music from the era known as “doo-wop”. The Platters introduced their first number one hit “Only You” in the summer of 1955 and followed if up with “The Great Pretender” in 1956 and stayed there for 2 weeks and remained in the top list for 11 whole weeks. The short lived band The Buckinghams released their only number one hit “Kind of A Drag” in 1967 and it remained atop the charts for a run of 2 weeks. So, if you’re looking for a few good songs to relax to, dance with the special someone to, or just to reminisce I would definitely give these a try! I’m definitely adding them to my playlist today! Happy Listening!!

And then there are those that I’m not looking forward to at all. Hence: ….will not be purchasing.

Katharine McPhee: Unbroken (She’s still making music??!??)
Kesha: Animal (need I saymore???)
Heidi Montag: Superficial (OMG, seriously… Heidi has NO musical ability what-so-ever!! She definitely needs to stick to “reality acting”.
